Variations On A Theme

PJ’s show takes you on a journey of discovery for three hours every Tuesday.

Each episode introduces a new topic or theme, be it trains, birds, magic, or memories, and then presents music associated with that theme from a wide range of eras and genres.

The link might be the title or lyrics of a song or even the name of the artist or group.

The music selections on each show are an eclectic mix of familiar favourites and rarities.

In this post-modern world we now live in, the show draws on a rich history of various musical styles, including blues, jazz, soul, country, and rock; one minute you might be listening to the ’40s swing of Sarah Vaughan, the next you might hear the southern funk of the Neville Brothers.

You may hear songs from the British Invasion bands of the ’60s, as well as the Chicago blues that inspired them; you may also go from the north African punk of Rachid Taha to north London soul divas like Amy Winehouse or Jess Glynne.

One music group, however, is non-negotiable.

They’ll have a song opening every show because they recorded songs about almost everything.

Every so often there may be a playful surprise to spice things up. After all, the whole point of a party is to have fun.
